The University of South Dakota at Springfield was founded in 1881 as Southern State Normal School. It was known as Southern State Teachers College from 1947 to 1965 and Southern State College from 1964 until 1971. USD-Springfield appears to have dropped baseball after 1982 and the school closed in 1984.
