Biographical Information

Soma Uchiyama has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Uchiyama represented Japan in the 2017 BFA U-15 Baseball Championship, and he was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 3rd round of the 2020 NPB draft; the scout was Kenta Abe. He hit .231/.342/.391 in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2021, and he crushed a game-winning solo home run against Hiroto Mori in the All-Star Game and won the MVP. He made his NPB debut on April 8, 2021, but he was 0-for-5 with the big club. Uchiyama then hit .232/.299/.362 with 4 homers for the top team in 2022, and he got his first career homer against Mizuki Hori on May 24. In the 2022 Nippon Series Game 2, he pinch-hit for Ryuta Konno in the 9th inning, and he crushed a game-tying, 3-run home run against Shota Abe. He was 0-for-2 combined in the rest of the series, and the Orix Buffaloes beat the Swallows in 7 games. Uchiyama crushed 6 homers with a .229/.290/.363 batting line in 2023, but he suffered from injuries so he only played 24 games with a .192/.222/.212 batting line in 2024.
