Biographical Information

Soichiro Tateoka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.

Tateoka was drafted by the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in the 2nd round of the 2008 NPB draft, but he spent his first 4 seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. The Hawks then traded him with Yuki Kume to the Yomiuri Giants for Levi Romero and Atsushi Fukumoto, and he hit .203/.234/.270 in 46 games in 2013. He only played 2 games in 2014, and he broke out in 2015. Tateoka hit .304/.343/.348 with 3 triples that season, and he also collected a career-high 16 steals. He handled 118 chances error-free in the outfield to boot.

He slumped to .229/.286/.303 in 2016, and he hit .208/.250/.254 in 2017. Tateoka never got more than 60 at-bats in a season again until 2024, when he hit .214/.305/.214 in 48 games. Tateoka then announced his retirement, and he became a minor league fielding coach for the Giants in 2025.

Overall, Tateoka hit .245/.298/.295 with 262 hits and 4 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
