Biographical Information

Shunichi Matsumoto signed with the Toei Flyers in 1959, and he only got 35 at-bats in his first four seasons. He was 6-for-52 in 1963, and he played 105 games with a .210/.240/.269 batting line in 1964. Matsumoto had a 10-for-52 record in 102 games in 1965, then he went 1-for-8 in 1966. He only played 3 games in 1967, and he was turned into a pitcher. Matsumoto was 2-2 with a 4.04 ERA in 40 relief outings in 1968, and he announced his retirement in 1969.

Overall, Matsumoto hit .193/.221/.248 with 62 hits in 10 seasons in NPB.
