Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Shuichi Fukazawa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Fukazawa was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 2nd round of the 1966 NPB draft, and he only got one at-bat for the top team in his first four seasons. He was traded to the Hiroshima Carp for Kazutomi Kawauchi in 1968, and he finally got some chances in 1971 when Kazuyoshi Yamamoto was injured. Fukazawa played 96 games with a .279/.325/.300 batting line, then he slumped to .196/.234/.2451972. He then struggled at the plate again in 1973 as his batting line was .198/.248/.292, but he still played 92 games thanks to his elite defense. Fukazawa's batting line was .193/.259/.249 in 1974, and he hit .207/.242/.264 in 108 games in 1975. He went 2-for-7 in the 1975 Nippon Series, and the Carp lost to the Hankyu Braves in 6 games. Fukazawa was 7-for-56 in 1976, and he had a 11-for-43 record in 1977. He played 77 games with a 9-for-25 record in 1978, and he only got 3 more at-bats for the top team before he announced his retirement in 1981.

Overall, Fukazawa hit .219/.268/.277 with 174 hits and 6 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
