Biographical Information[edit]

Shu Masuda has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Masuda represented Japan in the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup; the outfielder was 3-for-19 with 3 walks, 3 steals and 3 runs for the Bronze Medal winners. He was drafted by the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in the 3rd round of the 2017 NPB draft; the scout was Hisao Arakane. In 2019, he was second in the minor Western League in slugging (.422, .021 behind Shun Ishikawa), tied for 4th in doubles (18), tied for 10th in homers (7) and second with 53 RBI (3 shy of Alejandro Mejia). He spent his first four seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he only got 4 at-bats combined for the big club. Masuda also suffered from a right hand injury and missed the entire 2020 season. He had a .256/.302/.462 batting line in 45 plate appearances in 2022 (his first NPB hit was a homer off Enny Romero), but he slumped to .182/.270/.258 in 75 plate appearances over 35 games in 2023 and the Hawks released him. The Yakult Swallows picked him up, and Masuda hit .207/.255/.315 with 2 homers in 2024.
