Biographical Information[edit]
Shojiro Namba hit .258 with 7 homers in his college career, and he set the Kansai Big 6 University Baseball League homer record. He was called "Namba of West" corresponding with the "Nagashima of East", Shigeo Nagashima. He signed with the Yomiuri Giants with Nagashima in 1958, and he hit .255/.255/.489 in 40 games in his first season. Namba then played 66 games with a .226/.299/.379 batting line in 1959, but he slumped to .159/.264/.175 in 1960. He was 2-for-8 in 1961, and he moved to the Nishitetsu Lions. Namba had a 2-for-13 record in 1962, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Namba hit .212/.282/.337 with 54 hits in 5 seasons in NPB.
