Biographical Information

Shoji Matsumoto was drafted by the Hankyu Braves in the first round of the 1977 NPB draft, and he had a 4.15 ERA in 6 games in 1978. He relieved Mitsuhiro Adachi in the 6th inning of the 1978 Nippon Series Game 7, and he pitched 2/3 of an inning with a solo shot allowed to Charlie Manuel. Matsumoto went 1-1 with a 7.63 ERA in 1979, and he had a 5.71 ERA in 10 games in 1980. He only pitched 7 games for the big club in the rest of his career, and he announced his retirement in 1987.
