Biographical Information

Shoji Kawai was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 3rd round of the 1967 NPB draft, and he set the Western League record as he got a hit in 8 consecutive at-bats in 1971. However, he only got 5 at-bats for the big club combined in his first five seasons, and he was selected by the Yakult Swallows in the 1972 NPB active draft. Kawai was 0-for-1 in 1973, and he announced his retirement in 1974. He later ran a restaurant in Hiroshima.
