Biographical Information[edit]

Shogo Saito played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Saito was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 7th round of the 2007 NPB draft, and he stayed in the minors in his first two seasons. He was 0-for-6 in 2010, and he went 2-for-8 in 36 games in 2011 (a frequent pinch-runner, he had 10 runs and 6 steals in 8 tries). Saito played 29 games with a 6-for-27 record in 2012, and he only got one at-bat in 2013. He then hit .224/.314/.308 in 89 games in 2014, and he had a .260/.324/.375 batting line in a career-high 112 plate appearances over 103 games in 2015. Saito was hitless in 12 at-bats in 45 games in 2016, then he went 1-for-8 in 2017. He got some chances in 2018 as he hit .241/.330/.333 in 59 games, but he only played 3 games in 2019 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Saito hit .223/.297/.307 with 79 hits and 5 homers in 412 plate appearances spread over 392 games and 10 seasons in NPB. He stole 27 bases in 37 tries.
