Biographical Information

Shinjiro Sugiyama became the first player to hit for a cycle in Koshien Tournament, doing so against Morioka Commercial High School in 1949. He signed with the Daiei Stars in 1954, and he hit .244/.286/.256 in 94 plate appearances over 55 games as a backup infielder in his first season. He slumped to .159/.256/.188 in 80 plate appearances in 1955, and he announced his retirement in 1956.
