Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Shinji Niinuma was drafted by the Yokohama BayStars in the 2nd round of the 1997 NPB draft, and he only played 19 games combined for the big club in his first ten seasons as a pro player. He was 1-for-12 in 2008, and he finally got some chances when Ryoji Aikawa left the team in 2009. Niinuma played 34 games with a .159/.216/.203 batting line that season, and he hit .265/.294/.286 in 27 games in 2010. He recorded a .242/.309/.323 batting line in 45 games in 2011, but he only got 2 at-bats in 2012 and he announced his retirement. He was the battery coach for the BayStars from 2014 to 2015 and in 2021.
