Biographical Information

Shinji Niihari was 8-43 with a 3.21 ERA in his college career, and he holds the Tokyo Big6 Baseball League for most career losses. He signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1965, and he was 5-2 with a 3.16 ERA in 40 games in his first season. He went 4-4 with a 3.60 ERA in 1966, but he only pitched 11 more games before he announced his retirement in 1971.
