Biographical Information

Shinji Ko played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Ko was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 2nd round of the 1985 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He played 88 games with a .213/.281/.244 batting line in 1988, and he went 2-for-15 in 1989. Ko was then used as Hiroshima's main infield utility man, and he never had more than 100 at-bats again before he announced his retirement in 1998. He later coached the minor league team of the Carp from 1999 to 2002, and he was Hiroshima's infield fielding coach from 2003 to 2014. Ko was the minor league manager for the Carp in 2015, and the Carp named him their bench coach in 2016.

Overall, Ko hit .235/.291/.299 with 139 hits and 3 homers in 11 seasons in NPB; in 668 games, he had 681 plate appearances.
