Biographical Information[edit]
Shinichi Igarashi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 17 years.
Igarashi signed with the Nippon Ham Fighters in 1978, and he went 1-for-12 in 1980. He hit .241/.261/.306 in 79 games in 1981, and he appeared in the 1981 Nippon Series Game 6 as a pinch-runner. The Fighters lost to the Yomiuri Giants in 6 games. Igarashi then had a .248/.307/.382 batting line in 1982, but he struggled in 1983 as he went 6-for-44 in 43 games. He played 70 games with a .236/.281/.431 batting line in 1984, and he improved to .304/.364/.507 in 47 games in 1985. He batted .225/.262/.382 in 1986, and he had a .279/.348/.451 batting line in 68 games in 1987.
The Tokyo native was moved to the outfield in 1988, and he played a career-high 103 games with a .242/.304/.447 batting line and 7 homers. He lost his spot in 1989, and he was 21-for-74 in 51 games. Igarashi then hit .235/.276/.328 in 69 games in 1990, and he recorded a .258/.324/.319 batting line in 1991. He improved to .292/.331/.382 with 15 doubles in 1992, and he slumped to .218/.316/.317 in 1993. Igarashi collected 9 doubles with a .287/.322/.343 batting line in 1984, and he played 58 games with a .306/.333/.329 batting line in 1985. He was 0-for-9 in 1986, and he announced his retirement. Igarashi was a minor league coach for the Fighters from 1997 to 2005, and he managed them from 2010 to 2012.
Overall, Igarashi hit .256/.305/.363 with 568 hits and 37 homers in 17 seasons in NPB.
