Biographical Information[edit]
Shingo Nonaka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.
Nonaka was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 5th round of the 2001 NPB draft, and he mainly stayed in the minors in his first two seasons; he only got 5 at-bats for the top team. The Fighters traded him to the Yokohama BayStars in 2003 for Yukiya Yokoyama, and he led the Eastern League with 32 steals in 2004. He played 7 games as a pinch-runner for the top team in '04, and he was 1-for-6 in 30 games in 2005. Nonaka only appeared in 2 games in 2006, and he played a career-high 79 games with 15 steals and a .252/.328/.339 batting line in 2007. He was 8th in steals in the Pacific League, between Norichika Aoki and Akihiro Higashide. However, Nonaka slumped to .179/.179/.268 in 2008, and he only got 6 at-bats combined in 43 games in the next two seasons. The BayStars then sent him with Kentaro Kuwahara to the Orix Buffaloes for Ikki Shimamura, and he went 0-for-2 in 12 games in 2011. He got some chances after Tomotaka Sakaguchi was injured in 2012, and he recorded a .217/.293/.275 batting line and 12 steals in 74 games. Nonaka only played 6 games in 2013, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Nonaka hit .215/.279/.295 with 67 hits and 47 steals in 11 seasons in NPB. He had 312 AB in 312 games and had more runs (71) than hits.
