Biographical Information[edit]
Shigeo Kondo pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 3 years.
Kondo struck out 110 in the Tohoku Summer Koshien qualifier in 1960, and he set the tournament record for most strikeouts in a regional Summer Koshien qualifier. He was on the Japanese team in the 1964 Olympics. He pitched in the industrial leagues after high school. He was drafted by the Lotte Orions in the 5th round of the 1971 NPB draft, and he broke the NPB record for oldest player to be drafted. Kondo went 2-3 with a 4.58 ERA in 1972, and he had a 6-4 record with a 3.56 ERA in 1973. He notched 2 saves with a 4.12 ERA in 37 games in 1974, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Kondo was 10-9 with a 4.03 ERA and 2 saves, struck out 84 and pitched 199 innings in 3 seasons in NPB.
