Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeo Koike signed with the Tokyo Giants in 1941, and he was 2-for-3 in his first season. He hit .077/.192/.077 in 50 games in 1942, and he set the Japanese Professional Baseball League record with 43 consecutive hitless at-bats. Koike struggled again as his batting line was .125/.327/.145 in 77 games in 1943, and he still ranked 9th in walks (56, between Toshiaki Okamura and Fujio Ueda) for his main offensive contribution. Koike returned in 1946, but he didn't reach the big club and he announced his retirement.
