Biographical Information

Shigeki Morioka was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 7th round of the 1970 NPB draft, and he was 6-for-26 in 1971. He only got 15 at-bats combined in the next two seasons, and he played 58 games with a solid .317/.360/.385 batting line in a career-high 112 plate appearances in 1974, serving as a backup outfielder. Morioka slumped to .185/.185/.222 in 1975, and he was 1-for-3 in the 1975 Nippon Series with a double against Hisashi Yamada in Game 2; the Carp lost to the Hankyu Braves in 6 games. He played 69 games with a .261/.306/.326 batting line in 1976, then he hit .204/.304/.265 in 1977. Morioka was 1-for-8 in 1978, and he announced his retirement in 1979.

Overall, Morioka hit .249/.299/.305 with 80 hits in 8 seasons in NPB.
