Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeki Ikeda pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Ikeda was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 4th round of the 1967 NPB draft, and he went 5-5 with a 4.48 ERA in his first season. He improved to 4-3 with a 2.48 ERA in 46 appearances in 1969, then he recorded a 2.59 ERA in 24 appearances in 1970. The Whales then traded him with Sumio Fuchigami to the Lotte Orions for Ichiro Hiraoka and Yoshihiro Iizuka, and he was 3-3 with a 3.65 ERA in 31 appearances in 1971. Ikeda's ERA rose to 6.39 in 6 games in 1972, and he recorded a 3.92 ERA in 13 games in 1973. However, he only pitched 2 more games for the top team before he announced his retirement in 1977. Ikeda then coached in the Marines system for more than 30 years, and he also worked as a batting practice pitcher until 2016.

Overall, Ikeda was 13-12 with a 3.53 ERA, struck out 189 and pitched 354 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
