Outfielder Shawn Wills played in the Philadelphia Phillies system from 1992 to 1994, peaking at Single-A.
He was drafted four times. Initially, he was taken by the Texas Rangers in the 33rd round of the 1988 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Houston Astros in the 43rd round of the 1989 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of catcher Jorge Posada, and also ahead of Jason Giambi and Eric Young Sr. The Montreal Expos took him in the 12th round of the 1991 amateur draft, but he again didn't ink a contract. He finally signed after being taken by the Phillies in the 15th round of the 1992 amateur draft, a few picks after pitcher Melvin Bunch.
With the Batavia Clippers in 1992, he hit .226/.302/.343 with 31 stolen bases in 63 games; he had nearly as many runs (53) as hits (54) and led the New York-Penn League in the former category. He hit .223/.306/.300 with 4 homers, 53 RBI and 21 steals (17 caught stealing) in 116 games for the Spartanburg Phillies in 1993 and in 1994, back with Spartanburg, he hit .164/.200/.254 with 3 steals in 20 games.
Overall, Wills hit .219/.295/.310 with 10 homers, 75 RBI and 55 steals in 199 games over 3 seasons.
