Biographical Information[edit]

Seitaro Watanabe played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Watanabe signed with the Hanshin club in 1941, and he only pitched one game in his first season. He was 1-1 with a 2.91 ERA in 1942, and he allowed 13 runs in 7 2/3 innings in 1943. Watanabe then enlisted into the military and missed the next two seasons, and he was 10-12 with a 3.64 ERA in 1946. On July 26, Watanabe was the starting pitcher for the shortest game in NPB history (55 minutes), and he shutout the Pacific club in that game. He also played 50 games as a first baseman, and he had a .288/.326/.360 batting line that season. He had a 5-4 record with a 3.45 ERA in 1947, then he went to the Taiyo Robins. Watanabe was 2-6 with a 3.75 ERA in 1948, and he went 6-8 with a 3.30 ERA in 1949. His ERA was 4.35 in 21 appearances in 1950, and he announced his retirement after he recorded a 5.25 ERA in 9 games in 1951.

Overall, Watanabe was 30-34 with a 3.79 ERA, struck out 158 and pitched 637 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
