Biographical Information

Ryu Sugisawa has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Sugisawa won a triple crown and was MVP of the Sendai Big-Six Universities Baseball League in 2022, and he represented Japan in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week (going 1-for-13 with a double, two walks, three runs and a RBI). He was drafted by the Orix Buffaloes in the fourth round of the 2022 NPB draft; the scout was Kazuhiro Uemura. His first hit was off Shoma Fujihira, and he went 1-for-5 in his first season. Sugisawa hit .223/.273/.317 in 91 games in the NPB Farm Leagues that season, and he had a .216/.256/.311 batting line in 22 games for the Melbourne Aces in 2023-2024 ABL. He struggled again in 2024, and he went 1-for-19 with the big club.
