Biographical Information[edit]
Ryo Sakata played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Sakata was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 4th round of the 2008 NPB draft, and he went 1-for-10 in 2009. He crushed a career-high 8 homers with a .209/.357/.516 batting line in 2010, and he played 71 games with a .233/.266/.322 batting line in 2011. Sakata went 10-for-44 in 2012, and he recorded a .289/.338/.450 batting line in 2013. However, he missed the entire 2014 season after he underwent left shoulder surgery, and he slumped to .146/.167/.195 in 2015. Sakata hit .245/.280/.371 in 2016, and he was 7-for-16 in 2017. He was then placed in the minors for the entire 2018 season, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Sakata hit .244/.302/.382 with 179 hits and 21 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
