Biographical Information[edit]

Ryo Hirai was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 4th round of the 2009 NPB draft, and he stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first two seasons. He pitched 22 games with a 5.68 ERA in 2012, then he underwent shoulder surgery and missed most of the next three seasons. Hirai returned in 2016, and he collected 7 holds with a 2.81 ERA in 33 appearances. However, he allowed 4 runs in 2 2/3 innings in 2017, and he didn't reach the big club in 2018. His ERA was 8.53 in 20 games un 2019, and the Swallows released him in 2020. Hirai was 2-0 with a 2.05 ERA for the Ehime Mandarin Pirates in 2021, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Hirai went 5-5 with a 5.01 ERA and 13 holds, struck out 58 and pitched 79 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
