Ryo Hidaka was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 4th round of the 2008 NPB draft, and he stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first season. He had a 6.75 ERA in 16 appearances in 2011, and he broke out in 2012. Hidaka collected 15 holds with a 2.98 ERA in 66 appearances, and he was 4th in games in the Central League (behind Tetsuya Yamaguchi, Kentaro Nishimura and Takeru Imamura). However, Hidaka only pitched 2 more games for the Swallows due to a left elbow injury, and he was traded with Keizo Kawashima to the Softbank Hawks for Hirofumi Yamanaka and Nagisa Arakaki. Overall, Hino was 5-3 with 16 holds and a 4.19 ERA, struck out 45 and pitched 66 2/3 in 4 seasons in NPB.
