Ross Turetsky

From BR Bullpen

Ross Turetsky became the head coach of Penn State Wilkes-Barre in 2025 following the departure of Joe Gavenonis, who was hired but left the team before they could play a single game. He previously coached at Luzerne County Community College.

Turetsky is likely best known for his disastrous, almost cartoonish 2025 season, in which he left starting pitchers in to throw upward of 100 pitches in blowout losses, sometimes as many as 130 pitches in a game [1], exclusively using starting pitchers in relief in blowout losses then starting them the next game, even though there was at least 1 full-time relief pitcher, who was only used once, as well as a handful of fielders who could pitch fine, refusing to warm up pitchers before putting them into the game, rarely using the 2 substitute players on the team, even when the team was losing by upward of 10 runs, after over 10 players quit following his hiring, and an additional one leaving during the season after the typically mild-mannered Turetsky shouted in his face over him simply asking him why he was told to warm up but a pitcher who did not warm up at all was put into the game cold, leaving the team with just 10 players. While some players had to learn new positions with such limited staff, he still played the ones who actually knew how to play their own positions in the wrong spots. The team only won one single game that year, thus making his already nonsensical strategies even more questionable, as such things are an unnecessary risk of seriously injuring players for no reason, even with a limited number.
