Roman Yatsyuk was on the Ukrainian national team in the 2001 European Championship bur did not get into a game. He was 4-0 for the MZLU Express Brno in the 2004 Extraliga. He moved to Draci Brno in 2005 and went 7-1, finishing among the league leaders in wins (5th), innings (90, 4th) and strikeouts (115, 1st, 21 ahead of future minor leaguer Jan Řeháček). His 1.60 ERA ranked sixth.

In 2006, Roman won 11 games for Draci Brno, second in the circuit behind Petr Minařík, while not losing once. He was 4th in IP (83 1/3), third in strikeouts (80) and 6th in ERA (1.30).

Yatsyuk was 0-2 with a team-best 2.57 ERA for Ukraine in the 2007 European Championship. He blew a game in relief against Spain and went 13 innings against Croatia, losing an ironman duel to Jimmy Summers.

In the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, he gave up one hit and one run in 7 innings, fanning nine, in a win over Slovakia.
