Biographical Information[edit]

Roberto Girón was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent on May 20, 1993. Girón pitched professionally from 1993-2013, including 284 games over 5 seasons at AAA, but never made the majors. He spent four seasons in the Cincinnati Reds organization before playing in independent leagues from 1997-2000. Girón returned to affiliated ball in 2001 and played in the Milwaukee Brewers (2001-2004), Houston Astros (2005-2006]], and Kansas City Royals (2007-2008) minor league systems. From 2009-2013 Girón alternated between independent league and Mexican League teams while also playing in winter leagues. Over the course of his career, he pitched in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the U.S. and played for at least 21 different teams. Girón appeared in 771 games over 1350.2 innings pitched while posting a 3.84 ERA along with 1,292 strikeouts.

With the Dominican national team in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, he was 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in four games. He took the tough 3-1 loss to Norge Luis Vera and Cuba in the quarterfinals that eliminated the Dominicans from medal contention. His brothers are former minor league pitchers Emiliano Girón and Isabel Girón.

After his playing career, Girón joined the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and spent many years as a pitching coach in the Dominican Summer League. He was pitching coach of the DSL Dodgers in 2014-2015, DSL Dodgers 2 in 2016, DSL Dodgers 1 in 2017-2019, and DSL Dodgers Shoemaker/Mega in 2021-2026.

In addition to his work in the Dodgers organization, Girón has experience coaching in the winter Dominican League. He was the bullpen coach for the Estrellas Orientales in 2021/2022 to 2022/2023. He may have held the same position the following season. In 2024, Girón joined the Toros del Este on November 8th as the team's pitching coach. The Leones del Escogido hired him a as a bullpen coach on December 1, 2025 after firing their manager and pitching coach.
