Biographical Information[edit]

Rick Koch has played in the Bundesliga and for the German national team.

Koch debuted for the Hamburg Stealers at age 17, going 3 for 8 with a walk in the regular season and remaining with them for the playdowns. [1] He hit .222/.364/.222 and allowed five runs (four earned) in one inning. [2] After not playing in the Bundesliga-1 in 2021, he had a save and a 2.90 ERA in four games in '22. [3] The next summer, he allowed only one unearned run in 6 1/3 IP. [4] He also came to the US for college that year, going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA for Eckerd. He also yielded six runs (four earned) in 2 2/3 innings for Germany in the 2023 U23 European Championship. [5]

For Eckerd in 2024, he fell to 1-1, 5.73 with a save. He was 1-0 with a save and one run in 7 innings for the Stealers, but had a 11.20 ERA in the playoffs. [6] He was 1-0 and allowed four runs in four innings for the 2025 Bonn Capitals. [7] He pitched one shutout inning against the Astros Valencia in the 2025 European Champions Cup. [8] He then made Germany's team for the 2025 European Championship. He made one appearance, relieving Mark Harrison with a 2-0 lead in the 8th over defending champion Spain. He started off by striking out Daniel Jiménez but Frank Hernández singled and Carlos Colmenarez reached on a run-scoring error. Koch got former major leaguer Luis Guillorme, but would retire no one else as Jesús Ustariz homered for a 3-2 Spanish lead. Wander Encarnación singled and Rusber Estrada singled him in for a 4-2 score before Sascha Koch took over. He took the loss to Andrés Pérez. [9]
