Biographical Information[edit]
Rick Vanderhook is a college coach.
Vanderhook was with Cal State Fullerton as a player when they won the 1984 College World Series. He then was as an assistant coach under Augie Garrido from 1985-1988 and at Cal State Northridge from 1989-1990. From 1991-2007, he was assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton. He was assistant coach at UCLA from 2008-2011. In June 2011, he got his first head coaching job, replacing Dave Serrano as head coach of Cal State Fullerton. He went to 11 College World Series before that selection.
Vanderhook's tenure at the helm for the Titans saw some success in the beginning with trips to the 2015 & 2017 College World Series. He kept the Fullerton playoff streak alive through 2018, but the later years of his teams became less prominent on the national stage. After failing to reach the regionals in 2019 for the first time since 1991, and CSUF's first losing season in 2021 since 1973, Fullerton began their search for a new coach. In June 2021, Vanderhook announced his retirement, effective in December. He currently coaches at Mount San Antonio College.
