Biographical Information[edit]

Rick Shackle played in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 1989 to 1993. Despite posting a career 2.66 ERA and 1.180 WHIP, he never advanced beyond Double-A.

He was signed as an undrafted free agent. In his first season, 1989, he went 4-5 with a 1.67 ERA in 15 games (10 starts) for the Johnson City Cardinals, averaging more than a strikeout per inning. Between the Savannah Cardinals and St. Petersburg Cardinals in 1990, he went 11-6 with a 2.60 ERA in 25 games (19 starts). In 1991, he was 8-9, 2.65 in 21 starts for St. Petersburg and in 1992, he went 4-4 with a 2.50 ERA in 18 games (11 starts) for the Arkansas Travelers. Returning to Arkansas in 1993, he went 4-1 with a 4.57 mark in 10 games (6 starts) to end his career.

Overall, Shackle went 31-25 with a 2.66 ERA in 89 games (67 starts). In 433 innings, he allowed 403 hits and 108 walks, while striking out 318 batters.
