New York Nine
The New York Nine played what many historians consider the first game of true baseball in 1846, beating the New York Knickerbockers. The New York Nine was apparently the New York Base Ball Club, a club that had previously been in existence to play a previous form of base ball, and one which apparently lasted only through 1847. For a discussion of the New York Base Ball Club, see "Diamonds in the Rough: The Untold History of Baseball".
Some of the New York Nine were apparently former members of the Knickerbocker club.
