Biographical Information

Naoji Urata signed with the Nishitetsu Lions in 1957, and he only played 6 games in his first two seasons. He went 5-for-20 in 1959, and he was 1-for-14 in 1960. Urata had a 4-for-25 record in 1961, and he only got 15 more at-bats before he announced his retirement in 1968. He was the battery coach of the Lions from 1968 to 1969, and he also served as pitching coach from 1978 to 1980. He later scouted for them, signing Hajime Kato.
