Biographical Information

Naofumi Sugimoto signed with the Orix BlueWave in 1989, and he only played 10 games combined for the big club in his first ten seasons. He was 1-for-2 in 11 games in 2000, and he announced his retirement. Sugimoto was the assistant battery coach for Orix from 2002 to 2004, and he coached their minors team from 2005 to 2006. Often a defensive sub at catcher, he was an impressive 5-for-13 with a double and a run during his career.
