Biographical Information[edit]
Naoaki Hayashi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years. His brother Yasuo Hayashi also pitched in NPB.
Hayashi signed with the Chubu Nihon Dragons in 1946, and he allowed 3 runs in 11 innings that season. He tied the NPB record as he walked 6 in an inning on April 29, and he set the NPB record as he walked the first five batters in a game. He then pitched for the Yuki Braves of the Kyomin Baseball League in 1947, and he led the league with 12 wins. Hayashi joined the Goldstar club in 1948, and he jumped to the Taiyo Robins after he pitched 15 games with a 2.10 ERA. He went 3-4 with a 2.86 ERA in the rest of the season, but his ERA was 5.14 in 2 games in 1949.
The Aichi native jumped to the Taiyo Whales when the JPBL split into two leagues in 1950, and he was 11-12 with a 3.76 ERA that season. He allowed 10 runs (0 earned) in an inning on June 7, and he set the Central League record for most runs allowed in an inning and in a game (14). Hayashi improved to 16-11 with a 3.00 ERA in 1951, and he was 7th in wins (tied with Takao Fujimura) and 5th in complete games (tied with Ryohei Hasegawa and Hiroyoshi Takano). He had a 11-10 record with a 2.53 ERA in 1952, and his ERA rose to 7.68 in 9 games in 1953. Hayashi went 1-10 with a 3.52 ERA in 1954, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Hayashi was 51-58 with a 3.40 ERA, struck out 249 and pitched 971 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
