Biographical Information

Munehiro Shida hit .279 with 2 Best Nine awards in his college career, and he was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 8th round of the 2001 NPB draft. Shida hit .205/.256/.274 in 2002, and he was 6-for-19 in 2003. He then played 91 games with a .251/.305/.360 batting line as Yakult's platoon 4th outfielder in 2004, but he lost his spot after star Nori Aoki joined the team in 2005. He was 3-for-25 that season, and he went 5-for-27 in 2006. Shida then went 0-for-13 with 9 runs in 53 games in 2007, mainly as a defensive replacement for CF Aoki. He hit .222/.286/.244 in 40 games in 2008, and he had a 4-for-21 record in 2009. Shida only played one game in 2010, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Shida hit .218/.269/.291 with 87 hits in 9 seasons in NPB. He had 440 plate appearances over 320 games and had nearly as many runs (73) as hits; he was 12-for-15 in steal attempts.
