Biographical Information[edit]
Mitsuo Nishi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years. His brother Isoroku Nishi and nephew Shunji Nishi also played in NPB.
Nishi signed with the Daimai Orions in 1962, and he had a 4.36 ERA in 10 games in his first season. He went 6-9 with a 3.04 ERA in 1963, and he had a 5-6 record with a 2.32 ERA in 1964. Nishi recorded a 3.33 ERA in 38 appearances in 1965, and the Orions traded him to the Taiyo Whales for Takashi Suzuki. Nishi was 5-2 with a 3.83 ERA in 1966, then he went 4-3 with a 3.44 ERA in 1967. The Whales then traded him back to the Orions for Suzuki, and he announced his retirement after he recorded a 4.00 ERA in 5 games in 1968. He was the pitching coach for the Lions in 1977, and he coached and scouted in their system from 1976 to 1997.
Overall, Nishi was 26-25 with a 3.14 ERA, struck out 312 and pitched 519 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
