Biographical Information[edit]
OF Michael Siani was a member of the United States junior national team at the 2017 U18 Baseball World Cup in Thunder Bay, ON in which the U.S. won the gold medal. In nine games, he hit .333/.409/.487 with 12 runs in 9 games, stealing 7 bases in 8 tries. He led the event in runs (one ahead of Dae-hyun Cho), tied Alek Thomas for 4th in hits (13), tied for first in triples (2), tied Jason Willow for 5th in total bases (19) and led in steals (one ahead of Clayton Keyes). He joined Thomas and Ji-woon Ye as the event's All-Star outfielders.
He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 4th round of the 2018 amateur draft and made it to the majors four years later, at the tail end of the 2022 season, when he appeared in 9 games for the Reds, going 4 for 24 (.167). In 2023, he spent most of the year in the minors but was in 3 games for the Reds - he scored a run after reaching on a walk in his only plate appearance - and 5 for the St. Louis Cardinals who claimed him off waivers in early September. He went 0 for 5 for St. Louis. In the minors, he hit .227 in 119 games between two AAA teams, the Louisville Bats and Memphis Redbirds, with 69 runs, 9 homers and 48 RBIs.
At that point he did not look like anything more than an emergency outfielder at the major league level, but the Cardinals decided to make him their starter in center field in 2024, based on his excellent defensive work in the minors. As a result, he played 124 games for them that season and hit .228 with 2 homers and 20 RBIs, for an OPS+ of 62. Apart from his defensive play, the best part of his game was his speed, as he stole 20 bases in 23 attempts. That said, his hitting line was exactly what should have been expected based on his performance in AAA. In 2025, he was back to a more appropriate role of occasional call-up, getting into 19 games with the Cards and going 4 for 17 (.235). With Memphis, he played 101 games and hit .209 with 8 homers and 41 RBIs - right in line with his career numbers.
A busy off-season followed the 2025 season. On November 6th, he was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves, but was only with them - on paper - for five weeks as on December 12th, the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed him off waivers. That assignment lasted until January 23rd, when it was the turn of the New York Yankees to pick up, again off waivers. The Dodgers had needed to drop him from their roster when they signed free agent Kyle Tucker and the Yankees had to do the same five days after acquiring him when they obtained P Angel Chivilli in a trade with the Colorado Rockies. By then, the Dodgers had managed to clear another spot for him and claimed him again on February 3rd.
His brother Sammy Siani has played in the minor leagues.
