Biographical Information

Masayuki Umemoto signed with the Osaka Tigers in 1955, and he pitched 4 shutout innings in 1956. He was 4-4 with a 2.65 ERA in 1957, but his ERA rose to 6.75 in 8 appearances in 1958. Umemoto bounced back in 1959, and he had a 1-4 record with a 3.91 ERA. He pitched 20 games with a 3.89 ERA in 1960, and he allowed 2 runs in 2 2/3 innings in 1961. He was then turned into an outfielder, but he failed to return to the top team before he announced his retirement in 1963. Umemoto later coached in Hanshin system from 1964 to 1995.

Overall, Umemoto was 6-10 with a 3.60 ERA, struck out 84 and pitched 155 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
