Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Masayoshi Hayase played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Hayase won six Best Nine awards and two batting titles in his college career, and he hit .282 with 5 homers in 91 games. He signed with the Hankyu Braves in 1963, and he hit .258/.298/.398 with 8 homers in his first season. He crushed 10 homers with a .263/.315/.420 batting line in 1964, and he had a .268/.361/.432 batting line with a career-high 12 homers in 1965. Hayase then blasted 10 homers with a .235/.291/.364 batting line in 1966, and his batting line was .261/.330/.371 in 116 games in 1967. He went 3-for-13 in the 1967 Nippon Series, and the Braves lost to the Yomiuri Giants in 6 games.

The Aichi native slumped to .197/.288/.291 in 1968, and Kiyoshi Yano took his spot. He went 0-for-1 in the 1968 Nippon Series, and the Giants beat the Braves again in 6 games. Hayase only got 10 at-bats in 1969, and the Braves released him. He signed with the Hiroshima Carp, and he had a 2-for-26 record in 1970. Hayase hit .231/.315/.292 in 1971, and he was 6-for-28 in 1972 then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Hayase hit .248/.313/.378 with 454 hits and 49 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
