Biographical Information[edit]
Masatoshi Haraikawa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.
Haraikawa signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1957, and he went 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA in 1958. He improved to 18-7 with a 2.48 ERA in 1959, and he was 8th in the Pacific League in ERA (between Glenn Mickens and Takao Iio), 5th in wins (tied with Tetsuya Yoneda and 6th in strikeouts (between Masayuki Dobashi and Yukio Shimabara). He relieved Tadashi Sugiura in the 9th inning of the 1959 Nippon Series Game 1, but he surrendered 3 runs without retiring any batters. The Hawks still swept the Yomiuri Giants. He went 8-5 with a 2.93 ERA in 1960, and he had a 2-1 record with a 2.54 ERA in 1961. Haraikawa completed 2 shutout innings in the 1961 Nippon Series Game 2 as the starter, and the Hawks lost to the Giants in 6 games. He allowed 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings in 1962, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Haraikawa was 30-14 with a 2.79 ERA, struck out 302 and pitched 434 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
