Biographical Information[edit]
Masaru Koda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.
Koda signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1957, and he only pitched 2 games in 1958. On July 5, 1959 against the Hiroshima Carp, he became the first pitcher to get four strikeouts in an inning. He went 7-10 with a 2.86 ERA that season, and he was 2-4 with a 3.00 ERA in 1960. Koda's ERA was 2.61 in 19 games in 1961, but he was hit by a comebacker on the head in 1962 so he announced his retirement.
Overall, Koda was 10-16 with a 2.90 ERA, struck out 206 and pitched 238 2/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
