Biographical Information[edit]
Masaru Honma played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.
Honma signed with the Osaka Tigers in 1958, and he only pitched 5 games combined in his first two seasons. He went 13-8 with a 2.79 ERA in 1960, and he was 10th in wins in the Central League (tied with Ryohei Hasegawa and Midori Ishikawa). Honma then had a 8-13 record with a 3.48 ERA in 1961, and he ranked 6th in losses (tied with Minoru Murayama, Genichi Murata, Yasuhiko Kawamura, Motoshi Fujita and Takashi Suzuki). He only pitched 12 games with a 4.05 ERA in 1962, and he was 5-8 with a 2.51 ERA in 1963. Honma went 1-3 with a 2.54 ERA in 1964, and he allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings as the starter of the 1964 Nippon Series Game 3. The Tigers lost to the Nankai Hawks in 7 games. His ERA was 2.00 in 13 games in 1965, and the Tigers traded him to the Seibu Lions for Kazuharu Abe. Honma recorded a solid 1.80 ERA in 27 games in 1966, but he only pitched 4 games in 1967 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Honma was 28-38 with a 2.86 ERA, struck out 377 and pitched 693 1/3 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
