Biographical Information[edit]
Masao Tokaji played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.
Tokaji signed with the Osaka Tigers in 1958, and he went 4-for-11 in his first season. He was 7-for-28 in 1959, and he had a 10-for-51 record in 1960. Tokaji played 69 games with a .233/.282/.311 batting line as the backup catcher behind Tetsuya Yamamoto in 1961, and his batting line fell to .198/.244/.264 in 1962. He was 0-for-2 in the 1962 Nippon Series, and the Tigers lost to the Flyers in 7 games. Tokuji batted .173/.280/.235 in 1963, and he recorded a .203/.272/.333 batting line with a career-high 5 homers in 1964. However, he went 3-for-32 in 1965, and he went to the Tokyo Orions. Tokaji was hitless in 9 at-bats in 1966, and he announced his retirement after he went 4-for-19 in 1967.
Overall, Tokaji hit .199/.255/.280 with 133 hits and 10 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
