Biographical Information[edit]
Masao Ota played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Ota signed with the Nishitetsu Lions in 1953, and he had a 3.13 ERA in 19 appearances in his first season. His ERA was 5.40 in 6 games in 1954, and the Lions released him. Ota then signed with the Daiei Stars, and he went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 1955. He had a solid 1.86 ERA with a 4-6 record in 54 appearances in 1956, and he went 6-20 with a 3.36 ERA in 1957. Ota was 2nd in losses in the Pacific League, tied with Tsutomu Kuroda. Daiei then merged with the Daimai Orions, and Ota was 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 1958. He only pitched 4 games in 1959, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Ota was 16-31 with a 2.89 ERA, struck out 241 and pitched 522 2/3 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
