Biographical Information[edit]
Masao Kanda signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1952, and he had a 4.14 ERA in 11 appearances in his first season. He went 1-2 with a 5.20 ERA in 1953, and he was 0-4 with a 5.79 ERA in 1954. Kanda improved to a 2-4 record with a 2.81 ERA in 1955, but his ERA rose to 6.16 in 9 relief outings in 1956. He pitched 10 games with a 3.00 ERA in 1957, and he announced his retirement in 1958.
Overall, Kanda was 6-12 with a 4.41 ERA, struck out 99 and pitched 250 2/3 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
