Biographical Information[edit]
Masao Itakura signed with the Goldstar club in 1948, and he went 3-for-22 in his first season. He was 9-for-44 in 1949, and Goldstar became the Daiei Stars. Itakura hit .250/.288/.356 with 4 homers in 1950, and he played 67 games with a .195/.245/.318 batting line as Daiei's starting catcher in 1951. He was 8-for-52 in 1952, and his batting line was .167/.259/.250 in 1953. Itakura jumped to the Takahashi Unions in 1954, and he announced his retirement after hitting .153/.219/.169 in 43 games.
Overall, Itakura hit .194/.252/.293 with 112 hits and 14 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
