Biographical Information[edit]

Masaki Hayashi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Hayashi was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 3rd round of the 1997 NPB draft, and he only got 2 appearances in his first five seasons. He pitched 13 games with a 2.81 ERA in 2003, and he collected his first win on October 12 against the Yakult Swallows. Hayashi was the first player in the Central League to get his first win with only one pitch. He recorded a 4.14 ERA in 47 appearances in 2004, but he missed most of the 2005 season due to injuries. Hayashi returned in 2006, and he pitched a career-high 61 games with 12 holds and a 6.58 ERA. He tied Masanori Hayashi for 4th in appearances. He extended his solid performance as his ERA was 3.54 in 57 games with 16 holds, and he was 8th in holds (tied with Masao Kida) and 10th in appearances (tied with Kentaro Nishimura). Hayashi pitched 17 games with a 4.50 ERA in 2008, and he notched 5 holds with a 4.28 ERA in 46 games in 2009. His ERA rose to 5.96 in 26 games in 2010, and he only got 2 appearances in 2011 then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Hayashi was 7-10 with a 4.14 ERA, notched 37 holds in 276 appearances, struck out 187 and pitched 278 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
