Biographical Information[edit]

Mamoru Tanaka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years. His son Chikara Tanaka also played in NPB.

Tanaka signed with the Hankyu Braves in 1953, and he went 0-for-5 in his first season. He then had a .282/.342/.389 batting line in 41 plate appearances over 63 games in 1955, and he played 90 games (only coming to the plate 75 times; presumably, he was an outfield defensive sub often) with a .232/.284/.275 batting line in 1956. Tanaka collected 4 triples with a .230/.287/.352 batting line in 1957, and he got 4 triples again with a .254/.297/.354 batting line in 1958. He then batted .232/.259/.311 in 1959, and he was qualified for the batting title the first time in his career in 1960. Tanaka had a .265/.297/.377 batting line with 8 triples that season, and he tied Yoji Tamatsukuri for 3rd in triples in the Pacific League. However, he slumped to .210/.254/.306 in 1961, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Tanaka hit .243/.282/.342 with 307 hits and 14 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
